Iran declares Strait of Hormuz ‘completely open’ during ceasefire offering relief to global markets

Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain “completely open” for all commercial vessels during the ongoing ceasefire period. The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, signalling a move aimed at stabilising global trade routes amid regional tensions.

In a statement posted on X, Araghchi said the passage would remain open along coordinated routes already outlined by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation. The assurance comes in line with the ceasefire framework and is expected to ease concerns over disruptions to global shipping.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical corridor for international energy supplies and trade, and any restriction in its movement has significant global implications. Iran’s announcement is likely to provide temporary relief to markets and shipping operations during the ceasefire window.
